Welcome to the Newton-Q Workshop — Newcastle University’s annual event dedicated to the future of quantum technologies and post-quantum cyber security.

Organised jointly by the School of Computing and the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics, Newton-Q is an interdisciplinary initiative designed to build bridges across disciplines, foster new collaborations, and showcase cutting-edge research and real-world applications in the quantum and post-quantum domains.

The workshop brings together researchers, engineers, cybersecurity experts and students to explore current developments in:

  • Quantum communication and quantum key distribution
  • Quantum computing and algorithm design
  • Post-quantum cryptography
  • Network security in a quantum-enabled world
  • Industry innovation and emerging technologies

The event fosters meaningful engagement between academia and industry, with a strong emphasis on building connections that lead to collaborative research, commercial partnerships, internships and employment opportunities for students.

Now in its third year, Newton-Q continues to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of quantum communication, quantum computing and the challenges and opportunities posed by the post-quantum era.

This year’s workshop coincides with the UNESCO International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, offering a timely opportunity to celebrate the transformative potential of quantum research and highlight the critical role of collaboration in securing our digital future.

The Newton-Q Workshop is free to attend and open to all, with a particular welcome to early career researchers and students from across the University and beyond. We aim to make quantum science accessible, inclusive and inspiring, a platform where ideas and people connect.
