Cyber security business and CyberNorth member, Precursor Technology Group is poised to create new jobs after seeing huge growth in the last year.

The Leeds-based company launched its security operations centre in Newcastle’s Portland House last year, working around the clock, 365 days of the year.

Launched six years ago, Precursor provides solutions to help businesses stay secure, with its 24-hour service offering cloud security, continuous security testing, back-up and restore solutions, compliance services, incident response and penetration testing.

The company employs 35 staff, with 23 people at its headquarters in Leeds, 10 in its Newcastle office and two in London. Later this year it plans to take on 15 new members of staff across all offices, with eight starting in Newcastle, after seeing a 70% increase in sales over the past year.

Scott Cardow, CEO, said the company chose Newcastle because of the North East’s strong investment ecosystem, and access to tech talent and institutions like Newcastle University, which is known for its computing and cybersecurity expertise.

Mr Cardow said: “It has been another year of very strong growth for us. Our offensive security team in Leeds continues to expand, the Security Operations Centre in Newcastle has been onboarding clients on a weekly basis and our London office is thriving. The remainder of 2025 is looking strong as we launch innovations in threat intelligence and AI-enhanced security.”

Looking ahead, Precursor is actively recruiting in Newcastle where the security operations centre is expected to be the main driver of expansion.
