Week three of the North East’s biggest cyber security festival is a little quieter than week two with only (?) three events, one online and two in person. It could be the eye of the storm as the last week gets very busy again.

The first event, #8 in the schedule is a short online webinar designed to give the information you need to advise young people about careers in cyber security, covering the breadth of roles available, the skills required and the training options on offer. A selection of useful resources to support young people to make informed decisions about cyber security as a study and career pathway will be signposted.

If you are a parent, carer, teachers or careers advisor and you know a young person who’s interested in cyber security or may be a good fit for the sector but don’t know where to start then this is the event for you.

Event #9 is a Cyber Security and FinTech Partnership in collaboration with Durham University Business School, which  is bringing innovation to the cyber security and fintech sectors through a combination of these two disciplines and skill sets. The creation of the Department of Finance as a separate department took place in 2022, although finance has been at the heart of Durham University Business School since its inception. For many years it has had one of the largest concentrations of research and teaching staff dedicated to the study of finance in the world, impacting global education and research in areas such as Financial Technologies, Financial Engineering and Cyber Security.

Reflecting the significant growth and relevance to the region, the Department of Finance recently created a research and innovation track in Cybersecurity in Fintech. This is a unique combination and has enabled partnerships to flourish between international cyber security institutions and the university, as well as UKRI and Horizon Europe.

In this event, you will learn about the capabilities in the region and how these can be used to grow our secure FinTech sector.

#10 is a joint event with OWASP and Dev.Ops.North.East. After the success of their last joint meetup it was time for another. Having it as part of  #CyberFest is a bonus. DevOps is a methodology in the software development and IT industry,  integrating and automating the work of software development and IT operations to improve and shorten the systems development life cycle. Ensuring secure development is a key component and at this event you will learn more about the interesting world of DevSecOps.
There are 16 events in total at this year’s #CyberFest and more details can be found here.
