The North East has the highest number of unemployed and under-employed ex-forces people of any English region. CyberNorth is working with interested parties to help ex-forces into cyber security careers.
Following an introductory programme with TechVets, which provides a bridge for veterans, service leavers, reservists, and their families into information technology careers, CyberNorth has now signed an MOU with SaluteMyJob, a social enterprise committed to fostering stronger connections between ex-military individuals and supportive employers.
CyberNorth, supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), is working with SaluteMyJob and academic institutes to get unemployed and under-employed ex-forces people into cyber security positions across the region by raising awareness of the opportunities and bringing demand and supply together.
Since March 2024, SaluteMyJob has partnered with IBM and Abertay University to deliver cybersecurity training through grant-funding offered by Nominet and the Institute of Coding.
In this time, it has enrolled over 400 candidates from UK ex-Forces and Police backgrounds onto 8-week courses in Penetration Testing, Governance and Policy, Artificial Intelligence, and Open Source Intelligence.
This programme concludes in April 2025 and it is actively seeking employers to provide course graduates with opportunities, from internships to paid roles. There’s no cost to the employer and with years of managerial and leadership experience alongside newfound cyber skills, SaluteMyJob is confident its candidates will be valuable additions to businesses from day one.
SaluteMyJob would be delighted to work with you in placing candidates into suitable roles, and look forward to hearing from you.
